Introduction to Cleaning

The importance of training

A common misconception of the cleaning industry, from those who know no better, is that it is simple, menial work that can be done by anyone, with little or no thought required. Those of us who have had any kind of genuine experience into the delivery of efficient, cost effective cleaning services know that this perspective is totally unjustified. In fact, the opposite is the case; the ability to provide high-quality cleaning services with great quality standards will be greatly improved if there is appropriate investment in the most important resource – the cleaner.

  • Increased Morale
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • A Safer Working Environment
  • Increased Opportunities

By investing in training and continuous development, a cleaning team member will feel more valued as a member of the team. This leads to an increase in morale, a reduction in sickness and, perhaps most importantly, the cleaning team member will become more productive and will be able to grow within the company, taking on more and more responsibility as if it were their own.

In addition to increases in efficiency and productivity, training will lead to a cleaning team member being less wasteful when using cleaning chemicals and less likely to be using inappropriate products, which can be costly and ineffective, if not downright dangerous. Another area where costs will be reduced is through training a cleaning team member to care for their cleaning equipment. Proper routine cleaning and maintenance of machinery and equipment will increase their useful working life, thus significantly reducing costs.

If the proper emphasis is placed on all Health and Safety issues within the overall cleaning system, the cleaning team members make a valuable and measurable contribution in ensuring a safe working environment for all users of the worksite. The main area of concern for a cleaning team member is to take steps to ensure that all staff are aware of the dangers associated with the use of potentially harmful cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment. To achieve this aim it is essential that they are properly trained in their safe use. A principle aim of our training course is engendering a positive attitude towards health and safety throughout the workforce.

Training in specialist procedures will lead to greater opportunities. Any company or individual cleaning team member that places an emphasis on staff training and development will be in a better position to adapt to the changing demands of the customer base.

Introduction

There are many other important topics included in the course-related both specifically to working in the cleaning industry as well as more generally about getting a job and dealing with customers.

Description

When considering a training course for members of your organisation or as an individual, it is important that you consider the job you are taking on. For instance, in order for cleaning operatives to properly identify the correct product to use on any given surface, they must have an understanding of why the product cleans, how the product can be applied, how the surface being cleaned can be affected and the standard that can be achieved. To be able to do this, knowledge of all of the various components that make up an efficient cleaning regime is imperative. In Introduction to Training, we will deal with many of the fundamental aspects of cleaning in order to help you understand the importance of each of these factors in the overall delivery of an efficient cleaning service with the correct use of cleaning products and equipment.
